With this course we would like to attract people who do want to deepen their knowledge and have
the desire to get more involved into working with the land and nature. If you only look for
" a bit of craic " in outdoor activities, you are definitely wrong here.
Details,Program and Time-schedule of the Highlands-ECO-Camp:
Weekday, Day one:
Arrival at Donegal Bio-Dynamic Farm, Doorian, Glenties
Introduction into the Sustainable Landuse Company
Introduction into organisation of Camp-Site
Setting up the campsite
Introduction of the participating members to each other and to the guide
Setting up the Camp-Duty-Rooster
Briefing for the days ahead
Preparing Outfit for the next day
Campsitefire with bar-b-que
All other Weekdays:
The following days will be split up between workdays and leisure days,
Camp-Duty is every day: Breakfast 8.00 am, Lunch 1.00 pm, Supper 6.00 pm.
After the days programm there will be campfire with social.
Weekend :
The secret uplands of Donegal (a two day expedition)
Aims: Transferring knowledge in
Outdoor survival,
Blanket Bog and moors,
Identification of flora, fauna and soil,
Woodland ecology and management of modern and historic forests in Donegal.
Program- and Time-schedule:
Saturday at dawn:
Start of a 10 hours walk.
Walking uphill into the Blue Stag Mountains
Listening to the sounds of nature in a native/deciduous
woodland.
Identification of deciduous trees.
Passing waterfalls and upland rivers.
Identification of songbirds during their morning -chorus.
At 8.00 am:
Breakfast out of the rucksack.
Discussion : The human desire for nature.
Walk through an open plateau of Blanket Bog.
Identification of flora and fauna in the Blanket Bog.
At 10.00 am:
Entering a modern Forestplantation
Identification of commercial forest trees
Identification of animal tracks, mammals and other wildlife.
At 1.00 pm:
Break.
Discussion: Modern Forestry-Management and Ecology.
At 2.00 pm:
Walk through a moor, passing mountain lakes and
Moving uphill to the mountain top.
At 5.00 pm:
Reaching the top and viewing the landscape of West Donegal.
Talk: The geology of West Donegal
At 6.00 pm:
Walking downhill and choosing a campsite for the night.
At 8.00 pm:
Setting up campsite and a bite to eat.
Listening to the sounds of wilderness at night.
Sunday at dawn :
Breakfast at campsite.
Walking downhill towards home.
Afternoon :
